Have you ever wonder how people celebrated Christmas 200 years ago? It was totally different depending on the family you belonged. In the lattest session of our book club, we thought about Christmas for the poor reading the story of
"The little match girl" by the Danish author
Hans Christian Andersen. It was a very special session because we received the visit of Declan Matthews, father of one of our members, and an English speaker. He told us about life for the kids in the past and we commented some of the children´s rights we can enjoy nowadays. We also talked about fairytales, about our dreams and hopes, about consumerism, about Christmas... And we had time to read the story aloud and to light some matches, enjoying the magic of their glow.
Here is an interactive infographic about this traditional story and the marvellous video made by our local librarians.
Happy Christmas!!! Don´t forget to include a book in your wish list...
